EUKLEMS database [EUKLEMS]

 Updates

10/01/2023

This database contains the main variables which provide a better understanding of the evolution in labour productivity in Belgium. It constitutes the Belgian part of the European EUKLEMS project and includes the entire economy, divided into 38 industries and several aggregates over the period 1995-2021.

A better understanding of productivity evolution requires a specially adapted statistical tool that allows an industry-based analysis of the fundamental trends of the economy. Therefore, the Federal Planning Bureau worked, in 2007, with other European institutions on a project, financed by the European Union’s sixth framework programme for research, to develop the EUKLEMS database.

The last release of the international database EUKLEMS is available on the website https://euklems-intanprod-llee.luiss.it/. The data cover 38 industries and several aggregates according to the ISIC Rev. 4 (NACE Rev. 2) industry classification over the period 1995-2020, for the European countries, the United States and Japan. The available variables concern production, value added, intermediary consumption, labour and capital compensations, employment with various categories (gender, age, level of educational attainment), capital with a distinction between tangible and intangible capital, capital linked to information and communication technologies (ICT) or not. The growth contributions of both the different production factors and total factor productivity are also available. The basis data are consistent with the National Accounts.

The data presented here are an update of the Belgian part of the database, compatible with the National Accounts of October 2022. They cover the period 1995-2021.

Data on employment, labour volume and wage costs by characteristics of workers come from the database " Qualitative employment data for Belgium: data 1999-2020" (www.plan.be).

Any use of series derived from the Belgian part of this database must be referred to as: "Federal Planning Bureau, EUKLEMS database, January 2023".

The user interested in the exact sources of the variables can consult the PDF file “EUKLEMS: Sources of the January 2023 Release”.
